WHAT IS COLOUR-WELDING?
At ColourCoat we only use colour-welding. Unlike standard paints which stick to the surface, colour-welding is a four-stage process which results in an epoxy coating forming a molecular weld. This means the colour actually becomes part of the uPVC, making it impossible to blister, peel or flake. The coating is both durable and UV stable. The result is a factory-finish which leaves your windows looking brand new.
THE COLOUR-WELD PROCESS
How we do it
UPVC PREPARATION
This as the most important stage of the colour-welding process. Here we prepare the uPVC and make it ready to accept the colour-weld.
First we clean the uPVC with a formulated cleaner, removing all water soluble contaminants and most oils.
This is followed with the application of 'Windowprep'. This is a unique product which further cleans the uPVC and removes plasticizers. This also opens the 'pores' of the plastic, making it ready for the colour-weld
The third and final stage of the preparation is to lightly abrade the surface. This offers a mechanical key for the compound and increases surface area

TAPING AND MASKING
Every edge of the window is taped using the best quality tape. All surrounds are masked with masking paper, protecting surfaces from overspray

COLOUR-WELD SPRAY APPLICATION
The surface is now fully prepared and ready for the colour-welding. A dust-coat is first applied. This is then followed by two coats. The colour compound is fast drying and is touch dry within 6 minutes. However, it can take 7-10 days for the compound to completely cure. Care should be taken during this time to avoid abrasion and heavy handling.
